What is a dental implant?
Dental implants are small titanium screws that are inserted into the jaw and topped with a natural-looking prosthetic crown. Dental implants are able to bond with the jawbone, providing the most stable replacement method for missing teeth and one that can perform just as well! Dental implants allow patients to eat and chew any foods without restriction and, because they are fixed, they won’t slip out when you are talking, laughing and smiling.
Ready to Replace Your Missing Teeth??
Missing Teeth and Jawbone Loss
The jawbone relies on regular stimulation by the chewing and biting actions of teeth to maintain its mass and general health. When an adult tooth is missing, the jawbone almost immediately begins to resorb (“break down”.) The loss of jawbone is a serious condition that leads to health, aesthetic and self-esteem problems. The only way to prevent jawbone loss is with a dental implant.
Dental Implants: The Procedure
First we will meet for a consultation and to collect health information and imaging. We will determine whether you need to have a bone grafting procedure prior to implant placement. If so, you will need to wait several months post bone grafting to have the implant placed. The implant surgery takes just 1-4 hours, during which time you will be totally comfortable and relaxed to your preferred state. After implant surgery, the site is left alone to heal for a few months, after which time a beautiful crown restoration is attached to the implant via an abutment (“connecting piece”.)
Dental Implants Benefits:
- Long lasting (up to a lifetime!)
- No dietary restrictions
- Fixed – no slipping
- Natural look
- Preserve the jawbone
Dental Implants FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
Do dental implants hurt?
The surgical site is kept totally numb during surgery and for many hours after. As the anesthesia starts to wear off, you may begin to have some discomfort, which is usually controlled adequately with over the counter pain medications.
How long does the process take?
The entire process takes between 1 and 18 months, depending on the position of the missing tooth, the need for bone grafting, and additional factors.
How much time will I need to take off of work?
Most patients take the remainder of the day off following surgery, but return to work the next day.

Dr. Kimmel and the staff are absolutely marvelous! Dr himself is so genuinely caring that I wouldn’t dream of going to another oral surgeon. He takes tome and answers any and all questions and really makes you feel like like you are his only patient. I work in the healthcare field and I personally know that it is not an easy task to do that. His staff makes you feel so relaxed and not embarrassed for what what ever the reason you happen to be there! The front office and insurance ladies will do whatever it takes to make sure you get what is due to you! Like I satiated earlier, I would go back to him or recommend home to everyone who needs an oral surgeon!
