Meet Mark J. Kortebein, DDS

Dr. Kortebein has been practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 1991. He has been chosen multiple times as one of the best oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the Milwaukee’s Lifestyle Magazine survey of dentists in the Milwaukee area.
A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Kortebein graduation from Whitefish Bay High School and Ripon College. In 1987, he graduated Cum Laude from Marquette University School of Dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery. While at Marquette University, Dr. Kortebein was recognized for his excellence in the dental profession by election into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and by receipt of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Kortebein completed his residency training in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in 1990. Immediately following his oral surgery training, Dr. Kortebein completed an intensive one-year fellowship in Craniofacial & Orthognathic Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas with nationally renowned surgeon, Dr. Larry M. Wolford, D.D.S. Dr. Kortebein was honored for his contributions to education by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and for his contributions to AAOMS lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has ACLS certification.
Dr. Kortebein is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Wisconsin Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association, the Greater Milwaukee Dental Association and the Greater Milwaukee Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a past president of the Greater Milwaukee Dental Association.
Dr. Kortebein enjoys spending time with his wife Carolyn and their four children, following their athletic, musical and dramatic endeavors. He also enjoys golfing and traveling.

I had a great experience with Dr. Kortebein extracting my 4 wisdom teeth. I had been procrastinating this procedure for some time but after meeting with him and listening to all the options I felt very comfortable knowing I would be in good hands. I decided to do the nitrous gas because I didn't want to completely be out for the procedure. Dr. Kortebein and his team were very kind with making sure I was doing well throughout the surgery. He is extremely skilled, professional, and knowledgeable in his expertise. I couldn't believe how quick he was able to extract all 4 wisdom teeth. I didn't experience any significant pain during or after the procedure which was a plus too. I would definitely recommend this oral surgeon to others who are looking to get their wisdom teeth removed.

I have a confession to make: Dr. Kortebein is my brother. However, when he was done extracting the tooth I asked him, "So are you ready?" to which he replied, "I am finished". Pain management is, apparently, his strong suit. That and I really enjoyed, being part Irish, the low-key and friendly staff in Oak Creek. One more thing, his newfangled x-ray setup was very comfortable (no bitewings!).

Extremely clean and tidy environment. The dental asst. was professional and most attentive. Dr. Kortebein explained the procedure, applied a topical before numbing my jaw, extracted my tooth and put in 3-4 stitches. His asst. brought in my wife and carefully explained what we had to do at home to make me comfortable. Alissa, the bookkeeper, explained the charges, accepted a deposit and said she’d be sending the bill in to my insurance co. Total cost was $307, which was very reasonable. I will certainly recommend Oral Surgery Associates to friends in need of their services.
