Why do I need my wisdom teeth removed?

Because they are last to erupt in the mouth, wisdom teeth (also known as the “third molars”,) often simply do not fit. This leads to overcrowding of teeth and “impaction” (the inability to erupt properly through the gums.) Wisdom teeth are more likely to grow in crooked with the potential to damage nearby teeth and nerves, cause infection and additional complications down the road such as cysts and tumors.

The Best Time for Wisdom Teeth Removal

Between the ages of 17 and 25, there is a unique window of opportunity to remove the third molars with very little risk of complications. This is because the roots have not yet fully developed at this age.

Oral Surgeons for the Safe Removal of Wisdom Teeth

Oral surgeons are the go-to for wisdom teeth removal because we attend several years of training in a hospital after dental school, much of which includes anesthesia training. This allows us to give your child a safe, comfortable and overall positive wisdom tooth experience.

Are there any complications associated with wisdom teeth removal?

As with any surgical, there is some risk. However, with wisdom teeth surgery, the risks are very small. These include infection, dry mouth, and damage to nearby teeth and roots.

Does wisdom teeth surgery hurt?

You will be totally pain-free and very sleepy throughout the surgery. As the anesthesia wears off later in the evening, you may start to experience some discomfort or soreness, lasting for a few days. It is important to follow your pain management plan carefully to minimize discomfort at home.
